Justin Carroll
Texas-born artist, Justin Carroll is an avid fisherman, kayaker, and outdoorsman whose deep connection to the ocean and the natural world informs his work. After relocating to Santa Barbara in 2005, he developed a lasting fascination with the Channel Islands and the region’s extraordinary coastal landscape — subjects that continue to inspire his paintings.
Carroll began his creative career as a commercial illustrator before co-founding the Los Angeles-based graphic design firm Hamagami/Carroll, Inc. in 1989, with offices in Los Angeles and Dallas. He has also taught at both Otis Art Institute and Art Center College of Design in Southern California.
A self-taught painter, Carroll captures the places and pursuits that bring him the greatest joy: fishing along the islands and local surf, exploring Lake Cachuma, and immersing himself in the quiet beauty of California’s wild spaces. He and his wife, Noessa, enjoy the rare privilege of waking each morning to a view of Santa Cruz Island — a constant source of inspiration in both life and art.
